Origin and history
Le logis de la Pezellière is a mansion located in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the commune of Sainte-Gemmes-d'Andigné, in the region Pays de la Loire. Dating from the 4th quarter of the 15th century and the 1st quarter of the 16th century, it adopts a regular square plan, reflecting its defensive origin. Around a small central courtyard, there are several buildings: the seigneurial house in the south; in the east, a wing incorporating a dovecote; and in the north, a building covered in a pavilion with a conical-roofed scallop. The early entrance to the west is marked by a broken arch in shale, while traces of murderers remain, testifying to its defensive vocation.
The seigneurial house, rebuilt in the 16th century, is distinguished by a schist staircase leading to the summit and a fireplace decorated with motifs inspired by the first Renaissance (medalons, grape clusters, birds). Although remodeled in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, the manor house retains medieval elements, such as a bay that was pierced or reworked during the Renaissance. Its massed plan, rare for the time, gathers the functions of housing and defense around a central courtyard, typical of the Angelian seigneurial houses.
Listed as historical monuments since 27 August 2001, the house of the Pezelliere embodies the transition between medieval and reborn architecture. The protected elements include the entire house (Cadastre B 371), highlighting its heritage importance. The site, whose location is estimated to be "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), is associated with the municipality of Sainte-Gemmes-d'Andigné, in the district of Angers, under the code Insee 49331.
