Origin and history

Le Logis de la Pinellière is a building located in Gréez-sur-Roc, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire region. It dates from the 2nd quarter of the 17th century and has undergone modifications in the 18th century. This monument is emblematic of the rural architecture of this period in the historical region of Maine, marked by stone constructions and seigneurial ensembles often including outbuildings and religious spaces.

The site includes a main house, communes, a chapel and a tower. The remains of a garden with a washhouse complete this set, reflecting the typical spatial organization of the rural estates of the period. These elements, which have been listed as historic monuments since 1989, demonstrate the historic and architectural significance of the site.

The location of the house, 1.8 km south-east of the village of Gréez-sur-Roc and 2.5 km north-east of Montmirail, underscores its anchoring in a territory marked by a seigneurial and agricultural history. The region, then dominated by rural and artisanal activities, saw these houses as centres for land management and community life, often linked to local noble or bourgeois families.

The inclusion of Pinellière's house in the inventory of historical monuments in 1989 helped to preserve this architectural complex, while highlighting its role in the built heritage of the Sarthe. The protected elements, such as the chapel and the enclosure tower, illustrate the diversity of functions performed by these areas, between habitat, defense and religious practice.
