Origin and history
The Logis de la Senaigerie is a castle located in Bouaye, Loire-Atlantique, whose origins date back to at least the 15th century for the seigneurial house. However, the present house, accompanied by its escape and chapel, was built in the 16th and 17th centuries, while the commons were rebuilt in the 19th century. This monument occupied a key position near Lake Grand-Lieu, allowing it to control local activities as well as the exploitation of the forest of Touffou, essential for wood, hunting and heating in the Middle Ages.
The Senaigerie played a role both seigneurial and administrative, reflecting the importance of noble houses in the management of rural territories. Its location, more than 200 metres from Bouaye Station and 400 metres from the Acheneau (northern limit of the lake), highlights its anchoring in a landscape marked by natural resources. The site was officially recognized for its heritage value in 1999, with an inscription as historic monuments.
The communes, rebuilt in the 19th century, bear witness to the late architectural adaptations, while the chapel and its escape recall the residential and symbolic functions of the estate. Today, the house remains a representative example of the seigneurial residences of the Pays de la Loire, linked to the exploitation of the surrounding lands and waters.
