Origin and history
The house of the Tiffanelière, located at Celle-Lévescault in New Aquitaine, is a historical monument dating from the first half of the seventeenth century. This house, typical of the country residences around Poitiers, is part of an architectural complex comprising two wings of communes, a fence wall, and a renovated farmhouse in the east. The site, already mentioned in the 14th century for its Gallo-Roman remains, illustrates an ancient occupation, although the current buildings mainly reflect the architecture of the early 1600s.
The estate is organized around a central courtyard, with to the west a plot housing an orchard, a meadow, and a family cemetery in the southeast corner. The style of the house, sober and functional, evokes the aristocratic or bourgeois dwellings intended for the rural resort, characteristic of the Poitou in the seventeenth century. Together, including houses, commons and portal, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of December 12, 2002, highlighting its heritage value.
The layout of the site, with its agricultural areas and its funeral enclosure, suggests a residential and productive operation, typical of the large rural estates of the time. The presence of a family cemetery also indicates a desire to perpetuate the memory of the owners on their land, a common practice among provincial elites under the Old Regime.
The precise address of the house, 5350 La Tiffanneliere à Celle-Lévescault (code Insee 86045), confirms its anchoring in the department of Vienna, formerly in Poitou-Charentes. Although information on current visits or uses is missing from the source text, the inscription under the Historical Monuments guarantees legal protection of the architectural and landscape ensemble.
