Origin and history
The Logis de Rouvres, also known as a large farm in Rouvres, is a 17th century manor house located in the commune of Rouvres, Calvados department. Dated from the first half of the seventeenth century according to Arcisse de Caumont, it was transformed into a farm after its construction. The building, made of limestone, adopts a form of square courtyard accessible by two monumental doors, and retains painted ceilings as well as a dovecote with defensive elements, although its moats have disappeared.
The house was partially inscribed in the historical monuments by order of 13 April 1933, protecting its facades, roofs and a wooden staircase with balusters of the southern building. Built for the Marguerit family of Malleville, it housed a chapel, Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, built in 1634 for Jacques Marguerit, destroyed since then. In 1830, the dovecote was already in ruins and the moat was destroyed. During the Second World War, a barn and pavilion were destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt around 1960 in the same style.
Today, the residence of Rouvres bears witness to Norman manorial architecture of the seventeenth century, combining residential and agricultural functions. Its inscription in historical monuments underscores its heritage importance, despite the partial transformations and destructions suffered over the centuries.
