Origin and history

Le Logis du Puy-Blain is a 15th and 16th century building located in Terves, an associated municipality of Bressuire (Deux-Sèvres). It is organized around a rectangular courtyard, surrounded by walls and defended by a south-east bastion. The entrance, marked by a walled porch and a crenellated pedestrian door, gives access to a complex composed of a medieval house, a 15th century round tower and a house of 1589, next to a cylindrical tower. This site illustrates the small semi-seigneurial, semi-agricultural areas typical of the region, combining defensive functions (fired mouths, tower) and residential ones.

Cited in the late 14th century, the house preserves remains like a room with 15th century rustic fireplaces. The Renaissance house, dating precisely from 1589 in its vestibule, presents a door in the middle of a hanger framed with pilasters adorned and surmounted by a pediment pierced with an egg-eye. The ensemble, which was listed as a historical monument in 2009, was originally the heart of a farm. Currently in restoration, it belongs to a private company and could receive archaeological remains on its estate.

The site is representative of the fortified rural architecture of the late Middle Ages in Poitou, where local lords accumulated agricultural and military power. Its location along the former Bressuire road to Fontenay-le-Comte (D 938 ter) highlights its role in regional exchanges. Defensive elements, such as the tower and the bastion, reflect the tensions of the era, while the Renaissance decorations (oves, pediments) bear witness to a will to assert society in the 16th century.
