Origin and history
Logis de la Fontaine Orin is a rural building located in Mortrée, in the Orne department in Normandy. Built on the edge of the 15th and 16th centuries, it is distinguished by its L-shaped architecture and its flamboyant Gothic door, adorned with a braided arch and a flower of cabbage leaf. This house, probably linked to the neighbouring O castle, shares similar decorative elements, such as windows and trilobed mouldings.
The facades and roofs of the house, as well as its staircase with internal screws, were listed as historical monuments on 14 March 1995. This ranking demonstrates the heritage importance of this building, representative of the small rural houses of the late Middle Ages in this region. Its location, 2.5 km northeast of Mortrée, reinforces its anchoring in the local historical landscape.
Although the exact origins of the Logis de la Fontaine Orin remain partially unclear, its architectural style and decorations suggest construction linked to the rise of secondary residences or seigneurial outbuildings at that time. The proximity to the castle of O, of which it seems to share stylistic characteristics, suggests a historical relationship between the two buildings, perhaps within the framework of a larger domain.
