Origin and history
The house at 31 rue Dupacy in La Rochelle is an example of 18th-century civil architecture. Its facade, made of cut stone, is organized in four spans, and its lateral corridor leads to a wooden staircase located at the bottom. This building, typical of the urban houses of the period, has a small backyard, characteristic of the rock houses.
The wooden staircase dates from the middle of the 19th century, while the house was raised in the late 19th or early 20th century. These changes reflect the architectural changes and the growing space needs of the inhabitants. The façade (excluding the third floor) and an arcade were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 20 June 1928, highlighting their heritage value.
The official address recorded at the Mérimée base is 29 rue Dupacy, although GPS coordinates indicate number 31. This discrepancy can be explained by changes in street numbering or historical transcription errors. Localization is estimated to be "passable" (note 5/10), suggesting an approximation in available geographic data.
