Façade and Roofing (HV 56): inscription by decree of 29 December 1978
Origin and history
The log house at 4 Court Sylvain-Pichonnat in Bourges is one of the oldest in its area, dating from the 4th quarter of the 15th century. It is distinguished by an original architectural structure: the floor coverings of the floor support a wide corbellation covering the entire facade. This technical process, rare for the time, bears witness to advanced craftsmanship. The ground floor, probably dedicated to a workshop, suggests a craft or commercial vocation, common in medieval suburbs.
The rural skylight and the absence of ostentatious decorations reinforce the idea that this area was originally a modest suburbs on the outskirts of the city. The house, classified as a Historic Monument since 1978 for its facade and roof, illustrates the transition between medieval architecture and the early Renaissance. Its state of conservation makes it possible to study the techniques of construction in wooden strips, characteristic of the towns of the Loire Valley at the end of the Middle Ages.
The inscription under the title of Historical Monuments by order of 29 December 1978 preserved this rare example of medieval urban habitat. Although the exact location is considered "passable" (note 5/10), the official address remains Sylvain-Pichonnat Court, in the historic centre of Bourges. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rental) or possible modern reallocation.
