Façades on courtyard with gallery and adjoining roof; stairway (cad. 1940 A 88, 538): inscription by order of 27 January 1987

Origin and history

The House with wooden panels, known as the Ecu, is a historic monument located in La Ferté-Beauharnais, in the Loir-et-Cher. Built in the 16th century, it illustrates the typical architecture of the inns of the region, with a plan including a wooden gallery and independent access. Its wooden panels are made of torchi, and the front on courtyard still retains its original gallery as well as the space housing the staircase.

In the 19th century, the street façade was modified during a restoration following an alignment of the highway. Despite these transformations, the house remains representative of the local buildings of the modern era, with protected elements such as the courtyard gallery and its adjoining roof. These characteristics led him to register under the Historical Monuments by order of 27 January 1987.

This house follows a common architectural model for inns in the area, designed to accommodate travelers and merchants. Its spatial organization, with an independent gallery, reflects the practical and social needs of the time, where these places served as both accommodation, catering and meeting points for local and transit populations.
