Origin and history
The house at 1, Place du Marché-aux-Cochons-de-Lait is an emblematic building in Strasbourg, built in the early seventeenth century. This half-timbered building, characteristic of Alsatian architecture, is distinguished by its carved beams and two levels of balconies. With six floors, it illustrates the urban density and craftsmanship of the period.
Classified as a historic monument since 1929, this house bears witness to the heritage importance attached to ancient civilian buildings. Its inscription specifically concerns facades and roofs, highlighting their architectural value. The place where it is located, once dedicated to the piglets trade, also reflects the local economic history.
