Origin and history

The house at 2 rue du Haut-Koenigsburg in Bergheim, in the Haut-Rhin department, is a historic monument listed since 1929. This building, built in the 1st quarter of the 17th century, bears witness to the Alsatian civil architecture of this period. Its inscription specifically concerns facades and roofs, protected by ministerial decree.

Bergheim, located in the Greater East region, was at that time a city marked by a rural and artisanal economy. Bourgeois or urban houses, like this one, often reflected the prosperity of local merchants or notables. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the urban and social evolution of Alsace under the Old Regime.
