Origin and history
The house in Villenauxe-la-Grande, in the Great East, is a building dating from the first half of the seventeenth century. Built in 1628, as attested to the date engraved on the arch of the front door, it represents a typical example of civil architecture of that time. Its inscription in the title of Historical Monuments in 1996 protects its facades, roofs, as well as two vaulted cellars on central pillar, characteristic of the original part of the seventeenth century.
During the 19th century, the house underwent notable changes with the addition of two wings in 1882. These extensions reflect the architectural changes and functional needs of the era. Today, the building belongs to a departmental public institution, although its current status (open to the public, rental, etc.) is not specified in the available sources.
The location of the house, at 44 rue du Perrey, is documented in the Mérimée base, with a geographical accuracy deemed fair (note of 5/10). This monument thus illustrates the evolution of a bourgeois or notable residence over several centuries, while preserving major heritage elements of its original period.
