Origin and history

The House, Auberge des Allies, is a historic monument located at 39 rue des Chevaliers in Séletat, in the Lower Rhine. Built in the 2nd quarter of the 16th century, it features a vaulted basement in a cradle and a second floor in a corbelled wood panel. This building was initially used as a seat for the tailors' corporation, which expanded in 1537 according to a date noted by Dorlan, although this was not found in subsequent studies.

Before the Revolution, the building housed the meetings of the tailors, in addition to the stove located in 7 Place d'Armes. After 1789 he was transformed into an inn, held under the Restoration by the Koeberle family, whose son Eugene became a renowned surgeon. Today, it still houses the Allied Inn, which also extends to the nearby house. The ground floor preserves murals probably dated from the 19th century.

The Allied Inn was listed as a historical monument by order of 21 April 1934, protecting its facades and roof. This building illustrates the evolution of urban uses, from a medieval corporate place to a modern hotel function, while preserving architectural elements characteristic of the Alsatian Renaissance.
