Origin and history

The house of Narbonne, mentioned in the Compoix of 1576, is an architectural testimony of the sixteenth century. Its cochère door opens onto a pentagonal courtyard accessible by a vaulted passage in basket cove, underlined by beams and exposed beams. This device, typical of the time, combines functionality and aesthetics, with mouldings progressing in the thickness of the walls to support the upper gallery.

The spatial organization rests on an external degree leading to a landing, where a flight of perpendicular stairs serves the gallery. It has a decreasing corbellation, creating a visual effect where the mouldings seem to sink into the masonry. The windows, framed by slatted frets, and the supports highlighted by a similar bandeau, reflect the attention paid to decorative details. A bordilla well in four blocks of stone and a low arch opening under the staircase complete this ensemble, illustrating the ingenuity of Renaissance artisans.

Classified as a Historical Monument since 1946 for its courtyard façades, this house embodies the Narbon civil heritage. Its address, 7 rue Marceau, and its approximate location (8 rue Marceau) reveal a limited geographical accuracy, with a note of 5/10 for the location. The protected elements, inscribed by decree, highlight unique architectural features, such as the apparent structure and the pattern of openings.
