Origin and history

The house at 3 rue de la Poste in Bouxwiller (Bas-Rhin) was a 17th century building built in 1688 for Johann Christoph Conradt. She had a rectangular oriel supported by three wases, adorned with atrial motifs and an inscription bearing her name and date. The façade also had carved room windows and curule chairs, typical of the Alsatian architecture of the time.

The building, which was listed as a historic monument in 1930, was partially destroyed by fire on 22 November 1985. Despite its subsequent demolition, some decorative elements have been preserved and re-used in a modern construction, such as the anterior face of the lionel, a 1550 stone and a carved cartridge. Its status as a historic monument was repealed in 2015.

The house illustrates 17th century bourgeois civil architecture in Alsace, marked by Baroque influences and carved decorations. Its owner, Johann Christoph Conradt, left a lasting trace through inscriptions and ornamental elements, today the only evidence of its existence.
