Origin and history

The house at 22 quai Sainte-Catherine in Honfleur is an emblematic building dating from the 16th century. This building, whose facades and roofs have been listed as historic monuments since 1933, bears witness to the typical architecture of the Renaissance period in Normandy. Its location on the Sainte-Catherine wharf, formerly numbered 79, makes it a landmark of local heritage.

Honfleur, the historic port of Normandy, was in the 16th century a dynamic city linked to maritime trade and fishing. The houses of that time often reflect the prosperity of local merchants and shipowners. This type of building, with its stone or wooden facades, illustrates the architectural know-how of the period and the central role of the city in regional exchanges.

The protection of the house in 1933 underlined its heritage importance. The protected elements, i.e. facades and roofs, are representative of Norman Renaissance construction techniques. Although little detailed information is available about its occupants or its precise use, its inscription demonstrates the desire to preserve this unique architectural heritage.
