Origin and history

The house located in Vic-sur-Cère, in the Cantal, is a historic monument built in the seventeenth century. It features a typical civil architecture at the end of this period, with a simple elevation and a vaulted floor underlay in a full-finth cradle. The stairwell, highlighted on the outside by an elevation of the front wall, is surmounted by a curved pediment pierced by a skylight and two niches. This semicircular pediment bears the date of 1690, attesting its origin.

Until 1912, this house served as a private hotel for the Dejou family, an influential local family. It was then given by the same family to become Vic-sur-Cère's presbytery. Inside, there are panelling dating from the first half of the 18th century, adding a touch of elegance to the building. The facades, the roofs, the staircase with its wooden balustrade, as well as a walled room with its fireplace, have been protected since a decree of 11 June 1990.

The house illustrates the architectural style of the bourgeois residences of the region at the end of the seventeenth century. Its decorated pediment and monumental staircase reflect the social status of its former owners. Today, it remains a testimony of local history and the evolution of urban dwellings in the Cantal.

The location of the house at 5 Coffinhal Street is well documented, with satisfactory accuracy. Although private property, its status as a historic monument makes it a notable heritage element of Vic-sur-Cère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
