Origin and history
The house Cazin is a medieval historic residence in Peruges, in the department of Ain, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Classified as historical monuments in 1921, it is a typical example of the civil architecture of this medieval city, known for its preserved heritage. Its location, in the heart of the village, reflects the urban organization characteristic of the fortified villages of the Middle Ages.
In 1934, the house was restored by architect Emmanuel Cateland (1876–1948), at the request of Madame de Villeneuve, then owner. Cateland, also known for having designed the Cateland Building (registered as a historical monument in 1991), helped preserve the original architectural elements of the house. Today, the building belongs to an association and remains a testimony to local history and to the evolution of heritage restoration techniques.
The house Cazin is located at the addresses rue des Rondes and rue de la Place, in an area where geographical accuracy is estimated as fair (level 5/10 depending on the sources). Its ranking in 1921 specifically concerns the square frame n°1413, stressing its importance in the urban fabric of Peruges. The village, ranked among the most beautiful in France, attracts visitors for its intact medieval atmosphere, of which this house is an emblematic element.
