Origin and history

The house located in Vitteaux, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a civil building dating from the second half of the 15th century. It illustrates Burgundian domestic architecture of this period, marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by order of 26 May 1926 underlines its heritage importance, particularly for its preserved elements (cadastre E 729, 730).

The building is located at 1 rue Hubert-Languet (formerly rue de la Ville), in the centre of Vitteaux, commune of the Côte-d-Or department (code Insee 21710). The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not detail its current use (visit, accommodation or other).

At the end of the 15th century, Burgundy, then under ducal influence, experienced an urban and commercial boom. Bourgeois houses like this reflect the prosperity of secondary cities, often linked to artisanal or commercial activities. Their preservation provides insight into the way of life and social organization of the period, in an area marked by its medieval heritage.
