Origin and history

The house of Jehan-Séré is located place du Vieux-Tarascon in Tarascon-sur-Ariège, in the Ariège department, in the Occitanie region. Built in 1575, it is distinguished by its wood-paned architecture, where each floor moves slightly overhanging. The roof, covered with tiles, and the facade have been listed as historical monuments since April 17, 1950.

The building has notable architectural features, such as straight and long piles replacing the traditional crosses of Saint Andrew. These elements, as well as the accolade overtaking the openings, might suggest an older construction. The house thus illustrates a stylistic transition between medieval and Renaissance techniques.

With an altitude of 497 meters, the house of Jehan-Séré is part of the local heritage of Tarascon-sur-Ariège, reflecting the history and constructive know-how of the region at the end of the sixteenth century. Its partial inscription in 1950 underlines its historical and architectural importance, while preserving characteristic elements of the half-timbered houses of the time.
