Origin and history
The Maison de l'Esperon is an emblematic building of Mont-Saint-Michel, located in the Normandy region. Built between the 14th and 15th centuries, it embodies the medieval civil architecture of this period. Its facades and roofs, protected by a decree of 1 March 1928, testify to its heritage importance.
Classified as a Historic Monument, this house is part of the urban landscape of Mont-Saint-Michel, an emblematic site both religious and strategic. Although little precise information is available on its original use, its architectural style reflects the construction techniques of the era, marked by stone and defensive or residential structures.
Mont-Saint-Michel, at that time, was a major pilgrimage site and a key fortified point between Normandy and Brittany. Houses such as that of Esperon probably served as homes for artisans, merchants or members of the religious community, thus participating in the daily and economic life of the site.
