Origin and history

The House of Cloires, located in Charost in the Cher department, is an estate composed of a main dwelling, outbuildings, a fruit and vegetable garden, and a landscaped park. This site was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 21 December 2020, thus protecting all its built and plant elements, spread over several cadastral plots. Wooded areas, the park, and related buildings are among the outstanding features of this area, reflecting a typical organization of the rural properties of the region.

The Cloires domain is part of a regional context marked by a strong agricultural and landscape history. In the Centre-Val de Loire, master houses with gardens and parks were often places of life and production, playing a central role in the local economy. Although the details of its specific history are rare, this type of property illustrates the importance of green spaces and functional constructions in the lives of rural communities, especially from the 19th century, when the development of landscape parks became widespread.
