Origin and history
The House of Contemporary Arts (MAC) in Peruges is a place dedicated to contemporary art, set up on Rue du For in the medieval city of Peruges, in the department of Ain. This cultural centre, often abbreviated in MAC, has been active since 1964 and operated by an association founded a year earlier in 1963. Its objective is to promote emerging artists as confirmed through annual exhibitions.
Each year, MAC organizes five exhibitions highlighting creators from diverse backgrounds. In parallel, it welcomes artists in residence, thus promoting artistic creation and exchange. The place is part of a rich local heritage, alongside other institutions such as the Museum of Old Peruges, in a preserved medieval setting.
Although located in a historical environment, MAC is distinguished by its contemporary vocation. It participates in the cultural dynamics of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, while attracting a varied audience, from art lovers to tourists visiting the medieval city of Peruges.
