Origin and history
The Wood Cottage, located at Vesinet in the Yvelines, is an iconic building from the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. It was built in 1864 by architect Tricotel for Mr.Taconnet. This building is distinguished by its rustic style, blending slices of oak oak, mill, flint and stone debris. Each facade is decorated with a polygonal tower, and the cover, originally provided in thatched, gave the whole a picturesque appearance. Inside, the original wooden elements, such as doors and fireplace, are always preserved.
Wood Cottage is one of the first houses built in Vesinet, a new city created under the Second Empire. Its architecture, inspired by English cottages, reflects the enthusiasm of the time for secondary residences in the countryside, combining comfort and country aesthetics. The property also includes a dovecote and a dwelling, initially covered with thatch, strengthening its rural character. Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 26 September 2000, this house illustrates the architectural and social evolution of the region.
The classification as Historic Monument in 2000 protects the entire parcel AH 352, covering all built and unbuilt parts of the property. This status underscores the heritage importance of Wood Cottage, both for its architecture and its role in the urban history of Vesinet. The house remains a valuable testimony of the first residential settlements in this commune, marked by a mixture of innovation and tradition.
