Fade à pans de bois et la Roofing (Box H 785, 786p): inscription by order of 29 May 1962

Origin and history

The house at 8 rue de la Liberté in Sarlat-la-Canéda is a historical monument whose wooden facade and roof were protected by ministerial decree. This type of construction illustrates the medieval architectural heritage still visible in this town of the Périgord Noir, known for its high concentration of ancient buildings. The inscription under the title of Historical Monuments, effective since 1962, relates specifically to wood-paned elements and roofing.

This protection reflects the importance attached to preserving traditional constructive techniques in historic urban centres. The approximate location and available data suggest integration into the ancient urban fabric of Sarlat, a city renowned for its medieval and reborn heritage.
