Origin and history

The House located at 15 quai Vauban in Besançon is a historic monument registered since 1933. This building is closely linked to the defensive history of the city, notably through its association with the Citadelle and the urban enclosure. The legal protections mainly concern its facade, roof, as well as elements of the Vauban wharf, reflecting its architectural and urban importance.

In 2019, an extension of protection included various remains of the ramparts and bastioned towers of Besançon, such as those of the tower of Rivotte, the bezel of Brégille, or the 18th century guard corps. These elements highlight the city's strategic role in French military history, as well as the preservation of its defensive heritage. The House, by its location and its characteristics, fits into this broader historical context.

The accuracy of its location is considered fair, with an address confirmed at 15 quai Vauban, although approximate GPS coordinates suggest number 17. This monument, although little documented in its internal details, remains a testimony to the urban and architectural evolution of Besançon, a city marked by its military heritage and fortifications.
