Origin and history

The house in Chantrans, called 'La Tour' or 'Le Château', is a historical monument dating from the 4th quarter of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. It is representative of the buildings of that time, mixing a farm with a nobler home. This type of building illustrates the architectural and social evolution of the local seigneuries, where agricultural and residential functions often coexisted under one roof.

The construction of this house spanned between 1597, date engraved on a lintel in the corridor, and 1637, period at which the hooded chimneys, typical of the seventeenth century, were added. Another date, 1594, carved on the facade on the garden side with the inscription PC/PAXHVIC DOM, could mark either the end of the work or a modification of the building. An earlier date, 1562, also inscribed in the corridor, suggests an older, though unconfirmed, origin.

This house is part of the history of a seigneury attested from the twelfth century in Chantrans. Several 16th century houses still remain, bearing witness to the architectural and historical richness of this town. The building was listed as a Historic Monument by order of 6 September 1996, recognizing its heritage value and importance in the local landscape.
