Origin and history

The house in Montbéliard, Doubs, is a building dating back to the 4th quarter of the 16th century or the beginning of the 17th century. The building on street, built at that time, was partially redesigned in the 19th century. The facade on the street, redone in 1827, bears a date and a monogram "PG" above the entrance door, testifying to this transformation. The stairway tower and adjoining façade on the courtyard, pierced with sill windows, also date from the initial period (XVIth-17th centuries).

The street door was added to the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, reflecting modern access. The building suffered a fire in 1985, resulting in a complete restoration between 1985 and 1986. Some elements, such as the stairway tower and its courtyard façade, were classified as Historic Monument by order of 24 July 1986, while the street gate was inscribed on the same date. These protections underline the heritage importance of this house, combining Renaissance architecture and 19th century transformations.

The precise address of the house is 11 rue de la Sous-Prefecture in Montbéliard. Although the GPS location is approximate (level of accuracy estimated at 5/10), this monument illustrates the urban and architectural evolution of the city, marked by Protestant and industrial influences specific to the Franche-Comté region. The house, after its restoration, preserves traces of its turbulent history, between destruction and successive reconstructions.
