Origin and history

The House of the Sun, located in La Ferté-Beauharnais in the Loir-et-Cher, is a remarkable example of 16th century civil architecture. This monument is distinguished by its wood-paned structure, composed of stands between which are inserted bricks arranged flat or in fern motifs. The supporting elements, such as the cornel and intermediate poles, are decorated with grooves and surmounted by cubic capitals carved from hollow characters. These details, as well as the decorated consoles – one of which bears a statue of the Virgin – highlight the influence of late Renaissance and Gothic styles.

The facade, classified as Monument Historique by decree of 6 January 1926, has a cornice richly decorated with a twist and prismatic mouldings, resting on crows carved heads. The lofty floor has brick crosses of Saint Andrew, typical of the buildings of this time. The historic address, at the corner of the roads of Neung and Saint-Viatre, confirms its anchoring in the medieval and reborn urban fabric of the region. The accuracy of its current location is estimated as "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), based on available data.

No information is provided on the contemporary use of the building (visits, accommodation, etc.), but its listing as Historic Monuments bears witness to its heritage value. Photographs such as Pierre André Leclercq (1945–), under Creative Commons license, document his current state. The Insee code of the municipality (41083) and its attachment to the department of Loir-et-Cher (region Centre-Val de Loire) complete its administrative identification.
