Facades and roofs (Case G 158P): inscription by order of 30 January 1973

Origin and history

The House of the 15th century, located in Semur-en-Auxois in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is an emblematic monument of medieval civil architecture. Built in the 15th century, it bears witness to the built heritage of this period in the region. Its facades and roofs, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 30 January 1973, illustrate the construction techniques and decorative styles typical of this period.

In the 15th century, Semur-en-Auxois was a dynamic city with a predominantly agricultural and artisanal economy. The houses of this period were often used as houses for merchants, artisans or local notables. Their preservation makes it possible today to better understand the urban and social organization of the medieval period in Burgundy.

These buildings played a central role in everyday life, hosting both housing and economic activities.
