Origin and history
The House and Saline Morel, located on the Île-aux-Marins in Saint-Pierre, is a listed historical monument since 2011. This site is emblematic as the last home of a "small fisherman", thus reflecting the authenticity of a traditional lifestyle that is now gone. Parcel AD 58 and its buildings were protected to preserve this unique heritage.
The island, once populated by fishermen and saloons, has seen its economic and social activity decline over time. Houses such as the Morel's are a testament to this time when fishing and the exploitation of salt structured daily life. Today, this monument provides an overview of local history and the adaptation of island communities to their environment.
The 2011 ranking saved not only buildings, but also the collective memory associated with these traditional trades. The property, now managed by an association, could be used as a support for visits or cultural projects, although current practical information remains limited.
