Origin and history

This house located in Coulombs, in the region Centre-Val de Loire, dates from the 1st quarter of the 17th century. It is distinguished by its historic portal, originally erected in 1610 in Nogent-le-Roi by Sully, then moved to Coulombs. This stone stone gate includes a large cochère door surmounted by a pediment decorated with a shield, flanked by two doric pilasters, as well as an adjacent pedestrian door. The ensemble, classified as Historical Monument, bears witness to the architecture and practices of reuse of decorative elements at that time.

The portal comes from the former Navy hotel in Nogent-le-Roi, as attests its registration in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 5 May 1972. This type of re-employment, during the 17th and 18th centuries, illustrates urban transformations and transfers of wealth between seigneurial and royal domains. The current house, although less documented, thus retains a notable vestige of local history, linked to the influence of Sully, Minister of Henry IV.

The precise location of the house, at 2 or 4 Grande Rue in Coulombs (Eure-et-Loir), is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases. The mapping accuracy, estimated at 7/10, enables the site to be identified with satisfactory reliability. This monument offers a concrete example of architectural exchanges in Île-de-France and in the Centre-Val de Loire, regions marked by the heritage of the great aristocratic domains.
