Origin and history

The fortified house of the farm of the Colombian, located in Aincourt (Val-d Oriented towards defending the Norman border, it illustrates the military architecture of this troubled period. Its original isolation, confirmed by the Napoleonic cadastre, reveals a set surrounded by agricultural buildings and a dovecote now disappeared. The adjacent farm bodies suffered in part from the destruction of the Second World War.

The building, built in lock (stone and mortar) with angle chains, is distinguished by its few openings and two exterior stairs. That of the south facade, leading to a first floor today disappeared, contrasts with the north staircase, still accessible, leading to the second floor. A fire altered the upper floors, changing their initial volume. Inside, a room preserves the remains of a large 15th century mural, representing a confrontation between two knights, a rare testimony of medieval secular art.

Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 21 November 2003, the protection covers facades, roofs, the north staircase, the second floor with its paintings, as well as an old cellar and its access staircase. These elements underline its dual role: military defence originally, then agricultural and artistic heritage preserved despite the vagaries of history.
