Origin and history
The house fort des Allinges is a 14th century fortified residence, renovated in the 16th century, located on the plateau des Allinges in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier (Isère). It faces the castle of Fallavier, established since the twelfth century on a dominant hill. This monument illustrates the military and residential architecture of the late Middle Ages in Dauphiné, with preserved medieval structures: a four-level dungeon, two towers (including a dovecote), a courtine, as well as niches and a round path attesting to its defensive vocation.
In the 16th century, residential developments (buildings in the courtyard, dust windows, chimneys) tempered its warrior aspect, reflecting the evolution of seigneurial lifestyles. The fort house, transformed into a farm in the 19th century, was inhabited or rented to local farmers until 1995. It is then acquired by the municipality, which opens it to the public after its inscription in historical monuments in 2010. Its quadrangular plan, partially preserved murals and dovecote make it an exceptional testimony of the fortified habitat of Dauphin.
Between 1780 and 1995, the site changed hands several times through bequests or sales to private owners. The agricultural buildings added in the 19th century in and around the courtyard partially alter its original appearance. Today, the Allinges fort house, a communal property, is visited and offers a panorama of the architectural and social history of the region, from medieval wars to the agricultural revolution.
Its inscription in 2010 covers the strong house and its platter plot (cadastre CT 14), highlighting its heritage value. The site, located at 57 rue du Lac, benefits from a GPS location deemed "a priori satisfactory" (level 7/10). The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its role as a transition between fortress and residence, typical of Dauphinian strongholds.
