Origin and history
The house in Uzès, dating from the 18th century, is a modern or deeply renovated building. Its most remarkable element is the bumper of the entrance door, probably from another building. This massive ring, of wrought iron, is decorated with two coiled snakes whose heads clash around a shell-shaped plate. The base, reinforced for the shocks, has a stylized sheet, while striations simulate a bundle of rushes.
Ranked as a Historic Monument by order of 10 May 1954, only the hour is officially protected. The registered address (11 Gambetta Boulevard) places the building in the centre of Uzès, although the accuracy of its location is considered poor (note 5/10). No information is available on its current use (visit, accommodation) or its architectural history beyond this decorative element.
Available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) highlight the originality of this bumper, typical of 18th century craft, without providing details about owners, architects or events related to the house. The Creative Commons license of the associated photo (Krzysztof Golik) confirms its heritage interest, but the archives remain silent about its creation context or subsequent transformations.
