Jacques Pucherail - Merchant and former owner Remains occupied by his heirs in 1608.

Origin and history

The house located at 7 rue de la Pellisserie in Uzès has occupied, since 1608, the location of an old house belonging to the heirs of Jacques Pucherail, a local merchant. Although deeply redesigned over the centuries, the structure retains ancient architectural elements, especially in its inner courtyard. This one, below a garden, is connected by an external double-revolution staircase, whose wrought iron ramp is a remarkable art work.

The staircase ramp alternates between large and small panels decorated with C and S volutes, intertwined with semi-spirals and complex geometrical motifs. The large panels have a reamping of intersected volutes, while the central panel of the bearing has a lobe-shaped floret. The garden grill, sober with its straight bars, is surmounted by a lying C-ring strip. The gate, crowned with a pediment with volutes and a circular medallion with monogram, completes this architectural ensemble.

Classified as a Historical Monument, the house owes its protection to two specific elements: the wrought iron ramp of the staircase and the garden gate, inscribed by order of 15 May 1954. These details reflect the artisanal know-how of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the influence of the decorative styles of the period in the Languedoc region.
