Origin and history
Gaudy House is an iconic 16th century building located in Granges-le-Bourg, Haute-Saône department. It is distinguished by a monumental stone fireplace, decorated with Renaissance decorations, and a rectangular plan combining house, barn and stable. Its architecture reflects the traditional rural style of the region, with a clear separation between the habitable part and the agricultural outbuildings.
Ranked a historic monument in 2001, the house underwent a major construction campaign before 1822, including a change in its southern façade. The building, of square plan with a floor and a height, illustrates the evolution of peasant houses in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Its designation as historic monuments underscores its heritage value, particularly for its chimney and its characteristic spatial organization.
The precise location of Gaudy House is 8 rue du Pavé, in the commune of Granges-le-Bourg (code INSEE 70277). This monument reflects constructive practices and rural lifestyle in the 16th century, while integrating Renaissance architectural elements, rare in this context. Its present state is the result of both its original design and subsequent transformations, as evidenced by the sources of Monumentum and Mérimée.
