Facade and Roof (Box BN 176): inscription by order of 3 June 1932

Origin and history

The Gérard House, located in Saint-Renan, Brittany, is a historic monument dating from the 16th century. Built of cut stone, it is distinguished by its original architecture, including a slice at the corner, where two small windows were arranged. This panel is surmounted by successive projections that end under the roof, where emerges a sculpted figure in mid-body. The rampant roof is crowned by a dragon figure, adding to the fantastic appearance of the building.

The skylights of the roof are decorated with triangular pediments, decorated with stylized plant motifs made of cabbages and surmounted by busts of encapsulated characters. The entrance door, located on the ground floor, is framed by prismatic mouldings that form prominent leggings, themselves surmounted by pinacles. A carved accolade, adorned with curly cabbages, connects these pinnacles, highlighting the entrance to the house.

The Gérard House was classified by order of 3 June 1932, for its facades and roof, due to its architectural and decorative interest. Its location, at 7 rue de l'Église in Saint-Renan, makes it a landmark of local heritage. The sculptural details, such as busts and plant motifs, reflect the craftsmanship and decorative style of the Renaissance in Brittany.
