Origin and history

The house of Villersexel, built between the 15th century and the first quarter of the 16th century, is located in the old medieval town of the city. Its U-shaped architecture, organised around a paved courtyard, bears witness to its historical importance. The facades have preserved their original holes, while the interior houses chimneys from the late Middle Ages and a rare staircase for the region.

During the late 16th or early 17th century, the building underwent major changes, including the addition of a stair tower at the back of the courtyard. Interior modifications were also made in the 18th century. Despite these changes, several medieval elements remain, providing an overview of the Burgundy habitat of the time.

Classified as a Historic Monument in 2011, this house is now owned by Villersexel. Its state of conservation and its architectural characteristics make it a notable example of the civil heritage of Haute-Saône, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region.
