Origin and history

The house of Richelieu is part of an ambitious urban project initiated by Cardinal Richelieu. The latter transformed his native village into a new town, whose plans were designed by architect Jacques Lemercier, known for his work at the Château de Richelieu. The geometric line, with its ditches, ramparts, monumental gates and symmetrical streets, reflects a desire for rationality and prestige.

The town of Richelieu, founded ex nihilo, became a classic urban model in France. The houses, aligned and homogeneous, were integrated into a harmonious whole, where each architectural element contributed to the grandeur of the project. The facade and roof of this house were protected as early as 1932, demonstrating their heritage value.

The exact address, 4 or 8 place of the Religious, illustrates the accuracy of the initial plane, despite a GPS location deemed poor (note 5/10). This monument, though modest in appearance, embodies the legacy of an era when architecture served both power and aesthetics.
