Origin and history

The house of Richelieu is part of an ambitious urban project launched in the 17th century. The cardinal of Richelieu, born in the original village, decided to transform him into an ideal city. The plans were entrusted to Jacques Lemercier, a renowned architect, who designed a geometrical layout: symmetrical streets, ditches, ramparts and monumental doors frame houses aligned in a strict order.

This house, whose facade and roof have been protected since 1932, illustrates the architectural harmony sought by Richelieu.
