The 17th century entrance door (Box C 480): inscription by decree of 18 June 1962
Origin and history
The house at 30 rue de la Scelerie in Tours is an emblematic 17th century building, characterized by neat architecture. Its front door in basket handle, framed with pilasters and surmounted by a curved pediment decorated with a medallion, illustrates the decorative style of the period. The set consists of three housing bodies organized around a courtyard, whose fence wall has a niche that has been able to accommodate a fountain. The wings in return of square are connected by braided tubes, creating a distinctive passage.
In the 19th century, the main house body underwent notable modifications: it was raised and thickened on the courtyard side, while the stairs were reshaped. These changes reflect an adaptation of the building to the residential or aesthetic needs of this period. The entrance door, classified as Historic Monument by order of June 18, 1962, remains the only protected element of the house, bearing witness to its heritage value.
The exact address, 30 rue de la Scelerie, places the monument in the centre of Tours, a city marked by a rich architectural heritage. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), and photographs licensed under Creative Commons document its current appearance. No information is available about its access to the public or its contemporary uses (visits, rentals, etc.).
