Origin and history
The house located 2 rue Voltaire in Deols (Indre) is a building whose history is closely linked to a remarkable architectural element: a 12th century capital. This capital, representing two sirens, was embedded in the exterior wall of the house before being deposited in 2011. Its origin is probably associated with the former Abbey of Deols, a major religious site in the region whose remains marked the local heritage.
The capital was listed as historic monuments by order of 23 September 1949, a protection repealed on 8 August 2013 after its transfer. Since 2011, it has been preserved in the collections of the Bertrand Museum in Châteauroux (Indre), where it bears witness to the Romanesque art and monastic history of the region. The house itself, although less documented, offers an example of the integration of medieval heritage elements into civil architecture.
The location of the house, at 2 rue Voltaire, is attested by the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, with geographical precision deemed "a priori satisfactory". The Insee code of the municipality (36063) confirms its connection with l'Indre and the region Centre-Val de Loire. No information is available about its current use (visit, rental, etc.), but its connection to the abbey and the capital makes it an indirect witness to the religious past of Deols.
