Origin and history
This house in Lons-le-Saunier, in the Jura department, is an example of 17th and 18th century civil architecture. It preserves earlier elements, including arcades and a moulure door frame dating back to the 16th century, witness to an older construction. These remains, integrated with the current structure, reveal the architectural evolution of the building over the centuries.
The street façade was changed in the mid-19th century, reflecting the urban transformations of this period. Classified as a Historical Monument by order of December 2, 1926, this house illustrates the historic importance of bourgeois dwellings in the city centre of Lons-le-Saunier. Its inscription protects in particular the most remarkable architectural elements, such as the façade and remains of the sixteenth century.
The arches of the ground floor and the mulrations of the entrance door recall the stylistic influences of the Renaissance, while the modifications of the 19th century testify to an adaptation to the tastes and needs of the era. This mix of styles makes it a monument representative of local urban history, where medieval heritage, classicism and modern evolution intersect.
