The house at 55 rue du Commerce in Lons-le-Saunier is a remarkable example of civil architecture in the first half of the 18th century. It is distinguished by its facade with regular and neat composition, embellished with wrought iron elements. The building, rebuilt between 1731 and 1742, is part of a set of three bodies of parallel houses, one on street preserves 18th and 19th century decorations. This reconstruction is based on a structure attested from the beginning of the seventeenth century, reflecting the urban evolution of this historic artery, the oldest in the city centre.

The Rue du Commerce, with its characteristic arcades, embodies the commercial dynamism of Lons-le-Saunier in the past centuries. This house, classified as a Historical Monument by order of 1 July 1996 (including its cadastal plot AB 343), illustrates the prestige of the bourgeois houses of the time. Although private property, its inscription emphasizes its heritage importance in the Jura urban landscape. The accuracy of its location remains poor (level 5/10), but its official address and GPS coordinates place it unambiguously in the old fabric of the city.

The protected elements include the entire house and its plot, reflecting a desire to preserve an architectural heritage representative of the eighteenth century in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. The presence of preserved interior decorations, although partially redesigned in the 19th century, reinforces its historical interest. This monument is thus part of a dynamic of valorisation of the old building, typical of thermal and commercial cities like Lons-le-Saunier, then in full economic growth.
