Origin and history

The hotel is a neo-classical mansion, built between 1742 and 1746 in the heart of Nantes, at 70 Quai de la Fosse. Sponsored by Étienne O The building, inaugurated in 1746, also marks the French naturalization of its owner that same year.

The hotel then passes into the hands of the Le Roux family, wooden traders, whose daughter Marguerite married architect Mathurin Crucy. Its interior, including a glazed mahogany salon, was dismantled in 1975 and offered at Château Ramezay in Montreal. This transfer illustrates Nantes' transatlantic ties, a major port of slave trade and colonial trade.

Ranked a historic monument in 1938 for its facades and roof, the hotel O的Riordan bears witness to the tuffeau and granite architecture typical of the Nantes elite. Its history reflects the economic and cultural networks of the city, between Irish heritage, enrichment through maritime commerce, and artistic outreach.

Today, the building remains a symbol of the Nantes heritage, although its original woodwork, an 18th-century jewel, is now on display in Canada. Its exact address, 70 quai de la Fosse, and ranking in 1938 make it a must-see historic landmark in the city centre.
