15th century entrance door: inscription by decree of 17 April 1935
Origin and history
The house in Lusignan, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is a 15th-century civil building. It is representative of the domestic architecture of this period, marked by defensive or decorative elements according to the social status of its occupants. Although little documented, this house was partially protected for its heritage interest, including its entrance door, characteristic of the urban buildings of the late medieval era.
In the 15th century Lusignan and his region, then integrated into the Poitou, were marked by a rural and artisanal economy, where bourgeois or merchant houses played a central role in local life. These buildings served both as housing, as a place of commerce and sometimes as a symbol of power for wealthy families. The protection of the entrance door in 1935 underlines its architectural importance, reflecting the techniques and styles in vogue at the end of the Middle Ages in this part of the French West.
