Origin and history
Maron House is a 15th-century medieval building located in the commune of Chalamont, in the department of Ain. It is distinguished by its facade, the only part listed as historical monuments since 1927. Originally, it was located on Rue de l'Hôpital, a route that was later renamed Rue des Halles. Its location corresponds to parcel 208 of the Chalamont cadastre, and it is located in the immediate vicinity of the old school of the city, east of it.
In 1927, the house was occupied by a person named Maron, which gave him his current name. Later, in 1971, a Martin Jacki lived there. Maron House is representative of bourgeois or notable houses of medieval times in the Dombes region, an area marked by a rural economy and local trade. These houses often served as a place of life, but also as a symbol of social status for their owners.
The protection of the façade in 1927 underscores its architectural interest, although other parts of the building do not benefit from this recognition. Available sources, such as the Merimée base and Wikipedia, confirm its registration and its historic address, rue de l'Hôpital, although the current GPS coordinates place it instead of the Hospital. This evolution reflects the urban changes of Chalamont over the centuries.
