Origin and history
The house Martinet et Grassin is a medieval house located in the village of Peruges, in the department of Ain. Dating from the 15th century, it illustrates the typical civil architecture of this period, with preserved facades that bear witness to the know-how of the artisans of the time. This building, now classified as historical monuments, offers an overview of urban life in a medieval fortified city.
Ranked by ministerial decree on November 24, 1921, the house owes its name to its former owners or occupants, although the available sources do not specify their identity or their exact role. The protection specifically concerns its façade, inscribed in the cadastre under reference 1397p. The monument is now managed by an association, suggesting a contemporary heritage or cultural vocation.
Perugia, a preserved medieval village, was at the time an active village, probably turned to trade and crafts. Houses such as Martinet and Grassin served both as homes and workplaces for families often involved in textiles, metallurgy or local agriculture. Their conservation makes it possible to understand the social and economic organization of the small towns of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region after the Middle Ages.
